American Studies consists of one block of American Literature and one block of American History each day for a semester. Students use skills from both disciplines to complete three in depth projects, developing a more complete understanding of America's past, present, and future.
American history is the story of our nation’s past. In this course students use primary and secondary sources to explore selected themes that are woven into this story. American literature selections by key authors reflect such themes as civil rights, labor and social movements, industrial and technological change and the causes and consequences of war. Students receive English and Social Studies credit for this class.
